Logline
Music-obsessed Dylan, a young man with Down syndrome, sifts through every corner of a vibrantly nostalgic record store, interrupted by side-eyes and off key assumptions in search of one thing - a rare vinyl record. Turn Table is a honest and heartfelt, music-filled love letter to Rochester, NY, it's vibrant creative scene, and the joy of discovery.
About the Film
Turn Table is a high energy, visually stunning, and rock-driven short film that follows a young man with Down syndrome on a seemingly simple goal, finding a vinyl album in a treasure trove of a record store. A needle in a brightly colored, music-filled hay stack. Inspired by The breakfast Club, High Fidelity, and School of Rock, Turn Table flips the record on who gets the spotlight. It’s chaotic, nostalgic, rhythmic, and deeply heartfelt.
Every character Dylan encounters in the store represents a different perspective on Down syndrome. While some are comfortable interacting with Dylan, others are not. Turn Table shows that Down syndrome is not a disease or something to pity, it’s just a little something extra. The story proves everyone can learn, grow, and understand each other.
Set and filmed entirely in Rochester, NY, the film is a love letter to the city, and its vibrant creative community. A community based film, All 16 songs in the soundtrack are original works by Rochester-based musicians and bands. The album art in the store was created by local graphic designers, photographers, filmmakers, and artists. The record store itself, The Record Archive, is a beloved institution and community landmark. The Flower City Down syndrome Network, Rochester Rotary Club, and countless other individuals and groups contributed to bringing this unique story to life.
Turn Table honors the spirit of the creator and star’s stepdad, a local musician who passed while they were kids. He never underestimated Jake for having Down syndrome and treated him like anyone else. His music is a key part of the soundtrack, connecting the story to their lived experiences.
They say the more personal a film is, the more universal its themes. Turn Table is deeply personal to Nash and his family, his heart is all over the film, from the first frame to the final note. Audiences consistently fall in love with the film, drawn into its humor, energy, and emotional truth.
Turn Table is officially wrapped and now making its way through the film festival circuit.
